2014 Trip - The Denver Omelette Loop (now 100% gluten free!)

The Beginning

Alexis de Tocqueville once said to me, "Mike, as awesome as staying home on Friday nights, drinking tea and reading is, you've got to get out of Connecticut. Go explore the country. And get some bbq in Kansas City - it's freakin awesome. Now give me a high five!"

I thought long and hard about what Alex said to me and I think he's right(he is, after all, really awesome at giving high fives). I'm going to rent a car. I'm going to make a plan. I'm going to break those plans.

The timing seemed right to take a trip of this magnitude. My work scheduled lined up perfectly with the ideal time to travel across the United States. When will I ever get a chance to do something like this again? When I'm retired? Who knows what will happen at that point. Global warming might destroyed the planet. Or perhaps the machines finally take over to the demise of humanity. More likely then not Social Security will go bankrupt and I'll never be able to retire. Thanks Obama.

Chicago, Yellowstone, Seattle, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, etc - I've got a very large list of places I going to experience. Please send me any suggestions - whether its a quirky historic landmark in the middle of Missouri or the best breakfast burrito in Oregon.

The Summary

  • Duration: 5 Weeks(departing on June 1st and returning on July 7th)
  • 25 States
  • 9000 Miles
  • 152 Hours of Driving
  • 1 boatload of coffee

EDIT 2014-06-01: Well - I did say I was going to break plans. Originally I was going to drive across the US. But I decided to take flight to Denver and rent a car from there. By doing that I gained about 1 extra week in the West. And also 1 very very very long drive home. So here are the new stats:

  • Duration: 5 Weeks(departing on June 1st and returning on July 7th)
  • 9 States
  • 5000 Miles
  • ??? Hours of Driving
  • 1 boatload of coffee
